Large-Scale Modular Housing
Location: Portugal
Sector: Modular Housing
Client: Private
The masterplan incorporates extensive landscaped areas, parks, walking trails and cycle routes, creating opportunities for recreation, social interaction and active mobility while reducing commuting requirements. Full utilities, infrastructure and integrated waste management systems ensure efficient and resilient operation.
Sustainability and circularity are fundamental to the project, with an emphasis on recycled and locally sourced materials, renewable energy through solar PV and wind generation, hybrid energy backup, and comprehensive waste separation and recycling. The modular construction system is designed to enable components to be adapted, dismantled, reused and reconfigured at the end of the development's operational life.
A large-scale modular housing development providing temporary accommodation for approximately 1,000 people, designed to support the workforce of a major data centre. Conceived as a self-contained community, the project integrates residential accommodation with a comprehensive range of amenities, services and supporting infrastructure.
The flexible modular strategy accommodates both individuals and families, complemented by communal facilities including restaurants, catering, administration, coworking and office spaces, medical and emergency services, retail, laundry facilities, lounges, gyms, sports courts, daycare and nursery facilities.
The project demonstrates how modular architecture can deliver a flexible, sustainable and socially integrated community, responding to the complex logistical demands of large-scale workforce accommodation while prioritising wellbeing, efficiency and long-term adaptability.
